religious deconstruction
therapeutic life coaching in Bend, OR
Asking questions? Having doubts? Engaging in critical thinking? Re-filtering past experiences through your current worldview?
Organised spirituality as a part of our developmental framework can provide a sense of security, belonging, and a way to structure our experiences in a coherent way. The flipside of this, is when we start to ask questions or take steps away from it, it can be hugely disorientating; like finding yourself stranded in a foreign country with no map.
It can be difficult to know who to talk to about the experience of questioning faith or religion - many of the people we trust and love are also deeply intertwined in these spaces, and the fear of rejection, misunderstanding or hurting others is real. And encountering others who have left religious spaces carrying great anger and bitterness (although understandable) can be equally unhelpful as we tread this tender ground.
I myself have walked a deconstruction journey from Evangelical Christianity for the good part of 20 years. As a former ordained minister turned counsellor, my goal is not to sway you in any way, but to provide a safe space to work out your questions with someone who gets it.
The journey of re-negotiating faith is completely unique to each individual - some people land close to where they started, others connect to a different understanding and expression of their faith, while others leave that chapter behind them completely. I'm not here to tell you where to land or how to rebuild your spirituality, but to provide a non-judgemental and kind space to wrestle with your thoughts and feelings.
It would be my honour to accompany you on this journey. Reach out using the button below to arrange a free 15-min phone chat to see if we're a good fit, and please remember that I offer a sliding scale of fees if finance is an issue.
